FON_FREE_EAP

The newly-updated FON firmware becomes to broadcast the SSID "FON_FREE_EAP", that is secured by WPA-enterprise protocole and unnecessary for the additional web-login.  This secured FON seems to be broadcasted from the fonera collaborated with SoftBank Japan (偽FON, 禿FON).  The official tutorial about FON_FREE_EAP is not disclosed as far as I know.

User authentication

In windows8.1, WPA-enterprise (not WPA2-enterprise) is missing from the internet connection settings.  Nevertheless, WPA-enterprise profiles can be imported using command line.  I exported this profile from windows7 machine, and imported to windows 8.1 machine (ECS LIVA).  It works fine.

Akihabara station and Detective Conan

Today, when I transferred at Akihabara station, I saw the set of Detective Conan (名探偵コナン).

It is a advatising campaign of the japanese special TV movie "名探偵コナン 江戸川コナン失踪事件〜史上最悪の二日間〜" on Dec.26.2014.  This TV movie is collaborated with '12 japanese movie "Key of life (鍵泥棒のメソッド)".  It is said that we can get some special informations if we call the telephone numbers written in posters on the notice board.

Lubuntu 15.04 for PowerPC

Unfortunately, Lubuntu 14.10 had not been released owing to several bugs.  I tried to install Lubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) Daily Build for PowerPC on my powermac G5 (2.0G Dualcore, late2005, GeForce6600LE).
Though it was easy to install from the live CD (DVD), booting OS needed the yaboot parameter "nouveau.noaccel=1" for disabling acceleration.  Problem about sound must be fixed according to PowerPCKnownIssues.

In my feeling, stabilities or unstabilities of lubuntu 15.04 (daily build) are almost as same as Lubuntu 14.04.

Lumond

"Lumond" sold by Bourbon is my best favorite sweets from my childhood.

Lumond is a crepe-like cookie coated by chocolate and very lightly and tasty.  But these are too fragile to be recommended for souvenir.

SATA and USB3.0 upgrade on PowerMac G5

The late 2005 models of PowerMac G5 have PCI-express slots while a few PCIe boards for powerpc-Mac were sold out.  But, on linux, the radeon HD videocard for WIN-PC was reported to be work fine (link, link).  I tried to install Transcend PDC3 (USB3.0 / SATA III combo card for WIN-PC), which I used on my WIN-PC.  This PDC3 is compatible to PCI-express 2.0 1x but PowerMac G5 has only PCIe 1.0.

The Samsung 840EVO SSD was connected to PDC3.

Lubuntu 14.04 recognized my SSD without trouble, then I run a benchmark test by  "hdparm" command.

On the benchmark test, the SSD proved twice as fast as the one connected to internal SATA I slot.  However, that speed is almost as same as SATA II because of PCIe 1.0 of PowerMac G5.  SSD connected to PDC3 is of course unable to be used for a boot drive. 

Next, USB3.0 was tested.  From my experience, newer kernels of ubuntu cannot recognize USB3.0 while the older kernels (e.g. 3.13.0-36) are good.  Moreover, SATA and USB3.0 don't seem to work together at the same time on PDC3.  

I used SANDISK extreme USB for a benchmark test, that was connected to PDC3 and internal USB, respectively.

On the benchmark test, the USB3.0 proved ten times as fast as the internal USB2.0 although it wasn't match for the full speed of USB3.0.
If using PCIe x4 cards, more better paerfomances may be seen.

Ramen Senryu

My favorite ramen senryu (仙龍).  This is "Horumon ramen", which is of soy sauce with much backfat, long onion, and pig's intestines.  Chinese chili is best much to this ramen.

SSD (samsung 840EVO) on PowerMac G5

As far as I know, Samsung 840EVO is one of the compatible SSD for PowerMac G5 whereas only some models of SSD can work with PowerMac G5.  I bought and installed it for my PowerMac G5 (late2005 model).  The 840EVO, whose firmware was updated on WIN-PC, is very fast and quiet while PowerMac G5 has only SATA I.

I tried to run a benchmark but the standerd benchmark test of PPC-lubuntu couldn't work disappointingly. 

Then, the hdparm command was used for a quasi-benchmarking.

Expectedly, the speed of 840EVO on PowerMac G5 was only as SATA I.  However, I am satisfied with the present tweaking.

ISW13HT HTC J on FOMA plus area

HTC J (ISW13HT), japanese custom model of HTC valente, is my favorite smartphone.  It has been developped to get ROOT, S-off, and SIM unlock (link in japanese).  Recently, I'm using HTC J with Docomo MVNO data-only SIM (iijmio).  In previous android versions,  the problem of "cell standby" battery drainnig would occur in a data-only SIM according to here.
However, the improved fix of HTC J was already disclosed in here (japanese).

In addition, the special modification for HTC J to catch FOMA plus area (W-CDMA 800MHz band XIX) was also disclosed in here.  I adapted these mods to my HTC J with some difficulties.

Yesterday, I traveled to Hokkaido on business.  Then , I comfirmed the above mentioned mods worked well (connection was established on FOMA plus area and antenna pict was displayed).

Connectify PRO

I use my ECS LIVA as a wifi router.  NETSH commands and Ineternet Connection Sharing, featured by windows, creates a wireless hosted network very easily.  However,  the source to share the Internet connection must be configured manually, e.g. wifi, LAN, 3G or 4G modem.
I googled an automatic switching of ICS and the open source software SeventhGate was reported to have an option to select the suitable network connection as the source of ICS of  multiple connection sources, then I tried.

Unfortunately, SeventhGate doesn't work on windows8.1.

So. I googled again and found Connectify also had the same function but not in free version.  Moreover, now 70%off-offer was disclosed.   

I purchased and installed Connectify PRO and the automatic switching of ICS sources was established smoothly.

External antenna on ECS LIVA

I tried to attach external antennas to ECS LIVA for improving the Wifi sensitivity.

MHF4-RPSMA RF cables were purchased from AMAZON.

These uncool locations of antenna are due to the short-length of cable.  However, Wifi sensitivity becomes much better.

Fukuoka gourmet

My favorite hakata ramen restrant KAITEN (廻天).

 Tonkotsu ramen is very good.

Eel bowl at Yoshizuka unagi (吉塚うなぎ屋).

However, I felt this eel bowl worse than that I ate 3 years ago because of soggy rice. 

SKYMARK airlines

SKYMARK is the No.1 (gossipful) LCC airline.  I boarded SKYMARK's new A330 when I traveled to Fukuoka on business.

The new "Green Sheet" was very wide and comfortable like the premium economy sheet of lagacy carrier.

BUT, no CA wore the special uniform (announced six-month campaign from May 31) and SKYMARK FREE WIFI (in-flight wifi service) didn't connect at all.

ECS LIVA

I bought LIVA-64Gb (ECS), which was the world's smallest windows PC.  It is very funny but powerful more than I imagined.

At first, I installed windows 8.1 easily.  Some original drivers must be installed manually.

The LIVA's case is so stiff that re-opening is not easy.  Therefore, I scraped some holding pins smoothly.

I feel that Wifi often disconnects when USB3.0 is used.  To attach a extension cable for USB3.0 may improve that phenomenon.

Windows7 running on Powermac G5 (experimental) - part4

Recently, Lubuntu powerpc becomes stable and QEMU also becomes more stable and compatible.
I found the report of windows7 running on qemu / macport of OSX but it was reported to be still slow compared with VirtualPC for Mac 7.02
Then, I tried to run windows7 on QEMU2.0 / Lubuntu 14.04,1.

First, install qemu
           apt-get install qemu
    for sound emulation
           apt-get install pulseaudio

Second, I converted the previous disk image file installed windows7 starter (VPC for Mac 7) to qcow2 file.

           qemu-img convert -f vpc -O qcow2 diskimage.vhd diskimage.qcow2

QEMU for PPC-linux can simulate at most 2047 MB RAM while VPC7 can do max. 512MB.  QEMU can also be simulated multi-processor or -core, however windows7 starter supports only uniprocessor.
For sound emulation, "-soundhw ac97" option is needed and the driver must be installed manually (link).

          qemu-system-i386 -m 2047 -smp 2,cores=2,sockets=1,threads=1 -localtime -vga std -soundhw ac97 -hda diskimage.qcow2

Unfortunately, Windows7 on QEMU/Linux was slow as same as on VPC7 with ramdisk.
Sounds also work ....but with severe delay.

On my several trials, a little speed-up could be observed when a disk image file was on high-speed USB drive (I used SANDISK EXTREME) than on the internal SATA HDD.

Other faster devices (SSD or RAM disk) may show better perfomance.  I hope for the future updates, for expamle more RAM could be assign.

Garigarikun WIN !!

Garigarikun (ガリガリ君) is the most popular ice pop in Japan.  It is very inexpensive but delicious with a lottery.  I won at the first time while I had eaten over 50 ones in this summer !!  It is said that the winning rate is 1/32 (3%).

This stick can be bartered for another ice pop.

PowerPC Lubuntu kernel

When the new updates including kernel 3.13.0-35-powerpc-smp were installed, the bug appeared again.  I felt the kernel 3.13.0-33 and 3.13.0-34 were very stable.  So, the kernel was changed to 3.13.0-34 and it's working good.

SIM-unlocked softbank 007z part 3

Even if sim-unlocked and firm-updated, the connections to NTT Docomo of my softbank 007z are not stable.  According to 2ch, a softbank 007z supports Band9 (1.7GHz) and Band11 (1.5GHz) only, Band1 (2.1GHz) is not supported.  It also imformed that the modified 007z for BIZ firmware makes it possible to catch Band1 in exchange for unsupporting Bnad9 and Bnad11.

Change "SBMFAREN_JP_MF80" to "SBM_JP_MF80V1.0." by Binary editor and flash.

The connection to NTT Dococmo becomes very stable.  However, this is not recommended, as it is said that the restoration to original firmware is impossible.

007z in USA

Planex GW-US54SAG on windows7 64bit

Planex GW-US54SAG is not officially supported to windows7 and also 64bit vista.  To use on windows7 64bit, I tried some other drivers.

I downloaded Atheros AR5005UX and Windows Vista 64bit driver from the unoficcial Atheros Czech drivers site.

Then, I installed that driver and choosed the model as Allied telesyn AT-WCU201g Wireless USB Adapter.  Now, It works fine.  But this driver seems not to support the softAP mode. 

Eating loaches

Traditionally, loach is the stamina food of the summer as same as eel in Japan.  This is a pot dish of loaches at the Shibuya branch of Komagata Dozeu (駒形どぜう).  It matches a cold beer well.

Lubuntu 14.04 for PowerPC becomes stable ?

The first point release of ubuntu 14.04.1 was disclosed.  In original release of lubuntu 14.04, there were some troubles around Geforce 6600LE videocard on my PowerMac G5 (late 2005).  Especially, the bug of mouse cursor with noise often appeared and caused the kernel panic.

Although the yaboot parameter "video=ofonly nouveau.noaccel=1" was used, I didn't feel a remarkable change.  However, this bug seems to disappear after recent updates !?

Tunnel fire !?

The Tokyo metropolitan expressway sprays water-mist into Yamate Tunnel to prevent the tunnel temperature from rising (japanese).  Yesterday, it was very hot day.  I saw so much mist that I misunderstand the tunnel fire.

Eel bowl in Shinagawa

I like the Unagi (eel) very much.  Today, I visited Marutomi in Shinagawa, Tokyo.  This restaurant is near from Tokyo Hanada Airport.

I walked from Aomono Yokocho station and soon arrived.  It was very small restaurant without air-conditon.

This is double (eel) bowl.  Its sauce is a littel salty rather than sweet, of cause very delicious. 

Gifu

 last week, I traveled to Gifu to watch the fireworks festival.  Gifu is one of the hottest (temperature) places in Japan.  Of couse, it was very very hot day.

The golden Oda Nobunaga, the very famous japanese samurai lord.

The fish-shaped traditional sweets Ayugashi, limited-sold in summer. 

After sim-unlocked Softbank 007z

Last week, I unlocked my Softbank 007z using DC-unlocker, then it could be used with Docomo sim.

But, the connections to Docomo were often disrupted.

My 007z's firmware was BD_MF80V1.0.0B18 although newly BD_MF80V1.0.0B19 firmware had been disclosed.

The firmware update was done.

The connection to Docomo seems to be slightly improved, I feel !?
