KNOPPIX 9.1 CD version

KNOPPIX is the very useful OS based on Debian linux, and can be run from live CD. However, recent versions of KNOPPIX became bigger more than 4GB needs DVD.  It can be installed on a USB flash media.

Easy2Boot is also very useful utility which can boot multiple OSs from ISO files stored in the single removal flash media.  But, recent KNOPPIXs were very difficult (not impossible) to be treated by E2B because KNOPPIX ISOs (>4GB) were not stored in the FAT32 drive of E2B.

In KNOPPIX 9.1, CD image is also released after several years !! It can become loaded by E2B.

KNOPPIX9.1 with E2B is the very powerful and portable tool for our computing life!!

Raspberry pi zero and USB3 memory stick

Raspberry pi Zero (Pi-Zero) may not be able to recognize USB3 devices because of a power shortage of USB port. My Extreme Pro USB3.0 stick (128G, SANDISK) is not recognized by Pi-Zero without using a self-powered USB hub. However, a self-powered USB hub is too inconvenience to carry due to a bulky AC adapter.

The "max_usb_current=1" in the /boot/config.txt, which changes the Maximum USB current to 1.2 A, is not effective for Pi-Zero

I am using "Double-Powered USB hub (USB-HUB227WH3, SANWA supply, JAPAN)" which I bought very long ago.

If the Red connector is connected to a USB port or a power adapter, electrical power of USB hub is overloaded above 1A, like a self-powered Hub.  It can also be used as a bus-powered hub without using the Red connector.

With the USB-OTG setting, My USB3.0 memory stick can be used in Pi-Zero by connecting the red connecter to a 1A power adapter only.

Needless to say, just USB2.0 speed.

HDMI to VGA Converter may become alternative of HDMI Display Emulator for headless PC

Most of stick PC including my Meegopad T-01 cannot be used without monitor (headless PC).  HDMI dummy plug (Display Emulator) must be necessary.

However,  HDMI to VGA Converter which is no use at present may become alternative of Display Emulator. I can access the monitor-less Meegopad T-01 by remote desktop with VGA converter.

MX200 firmware update

A new firmware of MX200 SSD was released.

A system recovery image had been created, just in case.

Then, updated.

All existing data stored on SSD were preserved after updating.

Benchmarking by CrystalDiskMark version3 (MX200 500GB / mSATA3 / D54250WYKH).

The general performance seems to be inferior to the previous firmware?

Windows10 installed on Meegopad T01

Windows10 was released!!  I tried to install onto my Meegopad T01.

First, the upgrading from windows8.1 was performed.

About 2/3 of 32GB eMMC was used.

Display adapter and some devices were needed to be recognized manually as same as Windows 10TP.

Next, the clean instalation was done.  Windows10pro uses about 9GB of eMMC.

The volume label and the file index option couldn't be modified in windows10.  I wanted them but resulted in error.  However in Safe Mode, They can be modified.

New USB3.0 driver of D54250WYKH

I'm using Intel NUC D54250WYKH.  Recently, I found some new drivers were released on web site.
Today, I tried to install them in my machine.

At the time of USB3.0 driver (Version: 3.0.5.69), I uninstalled the old driver first and then installed the new one.  But, the SETUP showed a driver install error "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements.."

Why?  I tried to install this driver repeatedly or manually at the device maneger.  However, every usb devices became unrecognized completely because of my mistakes.  Neither USB keyboad nor USB mouse work in Windows, Oh my GOD!!
There is the warning message about this trouble on the Intel web.

USB mouse and keyboard were recovered by "Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)" option at the boot menu.

So, I gave up the new driver regretfully and installed the old driver again.  However, the same error message appeared in the old driver.  Why?? I had installed it previously and it worked well until just a while ago.
I considered and then remembered about BIOS update.

Downgrading BIOS from 0040 to 0035 was done.  And the new USB3.0 driver was re-tried.

Now, the installation was completed!!

The BIOS version 0040 may have bugs?

Belated CPU upgrade of DELL Inspiron 531s

I got a Athlon 64 X2 6000+ at the very low price of bargain corner.

I upgraded CPU in my DELL inspiron 5351s that Athlon 64 X2 5600+ was originally equipped.

It was very easy to assemble this machine.

Only 0.1 point up on the processor subscore.

This CPU upgrading improved performance a little dispite its power consumption (65W of Athlon X2 5600+ / 89W of Athlon X2 6000+).

Trim Enabler cannot support miniPCI-e SSD with SATA2 adapter ?

KingSpec KSM-SMP.5-064MJ is a mini PCI-express type SSD (not mSATA) for some EeePC models.

Trim is also supported.

I tried to install KSM-SMP.5-064MJ into my imac with SATA2 adapter.

I bought it via Amazon which brand or model number was unknown.

mini PCI-express to SATA adapter (left)
mSATA to SATA adaper (right)

Trim Enabler said "The patch is active but Trim is not working...." even if several rebootings were done.

On windows machine, Trim is supported through miniPCIe-SATA adapter.

And its speed was presented.

A issue of restoring Windows7 system image

I experienced the trouble when restoring Windows7 system image from external USB HDD.  At first, I hypothesized that USB3.0 drivers didn't work well.  However, from my some investgations, Windows7 system image recovery program might lose recovery images if multiple images (or different versions) were stored in "WindowsImageBackup"  folder of the same HDD.  I had stored Windows8.1 (x64, UEFI) image in that folder as well as Windows7 system image (x64, MBR).  After I moved my Windows8.1 system image to another folder, Windows7 recovery program could recgnize my system image properly.

At the request, benchmark tests were performed on QEMU-Windows7 on my PowerMac G5.

Next, the rarely finished result of HDBENCH (japanese) among numerous trials.  The settings were as follow;
           qemu-system-i386 -m 2047 -smp 2,cores=2,sockets=1,threads=1 -localtime -vga std -hda diskimage.qcow2

This is the result of EEEPC 4G-X (celeronM 630MHz, Memory 2GB, GPU Intel 910GML / Intel GMA900), as contorl.

Needless to say, the Windows7 virtual machine by QEMU-PPC linux is very slow.

Added at 5/21/15
(This result of HTML5 benchmark test is NOT comparable with HDBENCH)
